He began his 15 year detention on Robben Island when he was 21 years old. On Robben Island he was known for his fiery and impetuous personality- and full of the arrogance of youth. SUZE was both generous with his comrades and merciless to his opponents on the football field. He was the striker for the Manong Football Club- one of the leading teams in the Makana Football Association on Robben Island. His supreme athletic abilities gave him the confidence to express his opinion, and to stand up for his principles, even though those principles might not have been popular on the Island. On Robben Island he walked the fine line between being a vain scoundrel and a magnetic leader of men.
Today Suze lives in Clermont, North of Pretoria. He is a director of a commercial business development company called Etsebeth Suze Development Inc.
