Lizo Sitoto

When Sitoto began his 10 year detention on Robben Island, he was 20 years old.

When he arrived on Robben Island he was stocky, even chubby, but he was a rugby player so under the puppy-fat lurked real muscle. On Robben Island and especially when participating in activities of the Makana Football Association, he was the consummate team man, whether in the committee room or the sports field. He was the goalkeeper of Manong, one of the most competitive teams on Robben Island.

Sitoto is today a resident of  Kwanobuhle Township, Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape. He and his wife are the founding members and the directors of the Khanyisa Pre-school project.
